DESCRIPTION:Our Music Director began his Mahler cycle last February with Symphony No. 5 – now he continues it with Symphony No. 7, whose nickname "Song of the Night" may not come from the composer himself, but it certainly fits. For example, there is a night music in which the harp plays a serenade in the most beautiful harmony with a guitar and a mandolin. Or a scherzo where you don't quite know whether to describe it as a nightmare or a haunting. The final jubilation, on the other hand, is so dazzlingly bright that it once aroused irritated reactions.
