Choderlos de Laclos Auszüge aus «Gefährliche Liebschaften»
It's about a bet. A game. A destruction. In Choderlos de Laclos' epistolary novel "Dangerous Liaisons", the Marquise de Merteuil bets the Vicomte de Valmont whether he will manage to get a pious convent student into a premarital bed (out of revenge on her ex). But the story about the pact is merely an elegant arrangement in this novel of the century - the language, the humour, the poetic feints in the game of seduction are more important than the seduction itself. This is precisely where this novel meets the French baroque composer Marin Marais. In his suites, with their orgiastic variations on recurring bass formulas, we hear that Laclosian mixture of subtlety and sensuality for which Thomas Sarbacher and Rachel Braunschweig bring the necessary seductive power.
