Schubert's "Winterreise" for baritone and accordion? Yes, it is possible, at least when our former Focus artist Ksenija Sidorova is part of the programme. The Latvian accordionist demonstrates time and again how versatile her instrument is. Now she and baritone Thomas Hampson - who performed regularly at Zurich Opera House for many years - will present excerpts from what is probably the most famous song cycle of all. In addition, there is further evidence of "changeability": Ksenija Sidorova plays tangos by Ástor Piazolla and a piece by Sergei Woitenko, himself a virtuoso on the Eastern European accordion variant bayan. Finally, together with Thomas Hampson, she strikes a completely different musical tone: From Schubert songs to the songs of Kurt Weill - what a springtime journey!
